A downloadable game
As It Lies is a small golf puzzle played on generated hex courses. Choose a tee, choose a club and direction, roll for distance, and work out how to finish exactly on the cup.
This edition includes both interactive play and the complete print-and-play generator.
What it is
Each hole is built around a course layout rather than a loose scattering of terrain. Holes may be straight, dog-legged, split into separate routes, or offer different approaches to the green. Water, trees, bunkers, fairway, and rough shape the decisions.
Choose a par, architecture, and difficulty, or leave them random. The generator checks that each accepted hole has a playable route before showing it.

What you get
Interactive play
Pick a tee, choose a legal club, aim, and take the shot. The app rolls the dice, moves the ball, handles trees, water, and penalties, and keeps your score.
Complete print edition
Generate courses for paper play, print them or save them as PDF, and export clean SVG course sheets. The full rules are included.
The download is a self-contained browser app. Extract the ZIP and open index.html. It runs locally and does not need a server or an internet connection.
How it works
Choose a legal club for the ball's current lie, aim along one of the six straight hex directions, and roll the club's distance. The app shows the available choices and resolves the result.
Water and shots off the course cost a penalty. Trees can be carried from the tee but block later shots. The ball must finish exactly on the cup, so a safe lay-up can be more useful than the longest available shot.
Standard mode has you aim before rolling. Handicap mode lets you roll first and choose the direction afterwards. An optional mishit rule adds the occasional hook, slice, or random direction.
Ways to play
On screen
Play a complete hole with the app handling the mechanical details. Useful for a quick solo puzzle or for learning the rules.
On paper
Print the same generated courses and play with pencil and dice. Give several players the same seed for a shared challenge.
What you need
For interactive play, only a modern desktop browser.
For paper play, bring a pencil, a six-sided die, and a three-sided die. A normal d6 can replace the d3: read 1-2 as 1, 3-4 as 2, and 5-6 as 3.
Offline and private
The app has no runtime dependencies, makes no network requests, and requires no account. Keep the downloaded files and it will continue to work offline.
Licence
As It Lies is supplied for personal use. You may play it, print reasonable copies for your own household, table, classroom, or non-commercial group, and modify it for your own personal use.
You may not redistribute, rehost, resell, rebrand, or repackage the app, source, rules, or printable materials. The readable source is source-available, not open source. The complete licence is included with the download.
